How To Delay Aging

During a skin care event hosted by Celeteque Advanced last May 11, 2011, Dr. Nenita Alberto, dermatologist, shared ways to prevent aging. There are a lot of factors that contribute to aging like sun exposure, unhealthy lifestyle, and, the most obvious one, age (menopausal stage). But have you ever met someone who looked older than their real age? Some might just be in denial when you ask them of their age but there are people who just really look old.

Taking good care of your skin and your whole self is important. It's never too early, nor too late, to do so.

Avoid sun exposure from 10am to 4pm.

Use a sunblock with at least SPF 30 or more.

How much sunscreen to put?
Face: 1/2 to 1 teaspoon
Arm & Leg: 1 teaspoon each limb
Upper Body: 2 teaspoon (100ml)
Whole Body: 40 grams

Moisturize!!!
Dry Skin: use oily moisturizers with occlusive* and humectants**
Oily Skin: does not need moisturizer
Normal Skin: humectants** recommended
Combination Skin: avoid moisturizer on the T-Zone

* Occlusive: gives an oily layer on the skin to prevent water evaporation
(lanolin, petroleum jelly, vegetable oils, etc.)
* Humectants: absorbs water (glycerine, sorbitol, PPG)

You must reapply sunblock when you sweat or swim. Or use a waterproof kind.

When you apply sunblock, it will keep you protected for a good 6 to 8 hours.

Practice proper bathing - short warm showers. Hot showers will just dry up your skin.

Apply moisturizer within 3 minutes after stepping out of the shower to absorb moisture.

Put on your sunblock at least 30 minutes before you step out of the house.

Wash your face up to 3 times a day only.

Hypo-allergenic does not necessarily mean it is not allergenic.
Look for the term non-allergenic instead.

If you only apply moisturizer once a day, it is best to apply at night when your skin is repairing itself.
Wear sunscreen in the morning instead.

Avoid sleeping on your side. Doing so stretches the skin of your face.

Aging process starts at 60.

Avoid smoking. Smokers age faster and get more wrinkles.
They have a premature older complexion.

Lead a healthy emotional and physical lifestyle. Eat right, exercise and be stress-free!

This guide will help you retain a youthful appearance. However, it should be remembered that aging is inevitable. We cannot stop it. We can only delay the process.

By the way, I will be giving away something soon! So watch out for that! :)
